Do you enjoy singing?
Then why not join us?
We give a warm and friendly welcome to any newcomers. There is no audition, you will simply be asked to sing a simple tune so that a member of the Music Team can assess which section your voice would be best suited to. Even if you think you can't sing, join us and you will be surprised just what you are capable of.
Churchdown Male Voice Choir is a very busy and successful choir, performing many concerts a year and raising thousands of pounds each year for local and national charities.
We sing from a wide repertoire; from operatic choruses, to folk, from spirituals to Welsh hymns and musicals to pop songs. Some items from our current programme well illustrate this diversity -Alexander's Rag Time Band, Aus der Traube in die Tonne, Grand March from Aida, Swing Low, Sweet Chariot, Speed your Journey, and a medley of songs from the 60s, including, the House of the Rising Sun, He aint Heavy, he's my brother. Pretty Flamingo, Silence is Golden, Bohemian Rhapsody, Sloop John B, etc.
An important feature of the choir's year is an annual tour, and since 1980, with very few exceptions we have managed to get away for anything up to two weeks visiting other countries and other choirs. In addition to many English towns and cities, the choir has been to Holland, Germany, the Isle of Man, Jersey, and most spectacularly of all, a two-week trip to Washington DC in 2000.
We rehearse on Monday evening from 7.30 to 9.30pm at Churchdown Community Centre. (click for directions)
